How Many Options is Optimal For Survey Completion?

The two graphs below shows the relationship between the number of response options and survey completion rates.

When considering the number of response options across all questions, we observe that fewer response options (like 2 or 3) result in higher response rates, with rates up to 0.9 (90%). However, offering more than 12 options drops the response rate to about 0.4-0.5 (40-50%).

When considering the number of response options across just the first question in the Question Stream, the response rate stays consistent between 0.3 to 0.5 (30-50%) regardless of the number of response options.
